An invitation is extended to all current and pasmembers of RAEMand friendof RAEME to attend our Annual All Ranks Luncheon. This year we celebrate the 78th Anniversary of the establishment of the Corps and the luncheon provides an opportunity for all "Bluebells" celebrate our achievements.

Guest Speaker

We are pleased to announce that Brigadier Ed Smeaton will be our guest speaker this year. Brigadier Smeaton has just returned from Operations in the Middle East as the Commander Task Group Afghanistan.

BRIG Smeaton joined the Australian Army on 20 January 1989 as an Officer Cadet at the Royal Military College - Australia, subsequently graduating as a RAEME Officer on 15 July 1990 and has completed 31 years’ service.

In October it was announced that Brigadier Smeaton will be retiring. He will be accompanied by his wife Simone and will be a great opportunity to catch up and thank them for their service. 

Venue:     Port Office Dining Room, Brisbane CBD (Port Office Hotel) Corner Edward and Margaret Streets.

Timings:  1130 hrs pre luncheon gathering for 1230 hrs start, finishing at 1700hrs

Meal:        Entree, Main (3 way alternate drop), desert (cake) tea and coffee.

Drinks:     Drink package included for the first hour once seated (after the first hour drinks are own expense)

Dress:      Smart Casual - Gents Tie please

  • We cannot guarantee the attendance of the guest speaker due to operational reasons. We will provide a replacement guest speaker if this happens.

  • Brigadier Ed Smeaton

    Brigadier Ed Smeaton

    Brigadier Ed Smeaton joined the Australian Army in 1989, entering the Royal Military College and graduated into the Corps of the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

    Brigadier Smeaton has served in a wide variety of regimental appointments. As a logistics officer he has served in Air Defence, Regional Force Surveillance, Electronic Warfare, Aviation and Combat Engineer units. His command appointments have included Commanding Officer 1st Combat Service Support Battalion and Commander Force Support Group 17th Combat Service Support Brigade.

    His staff appointments comprise the areas of capability acquisition, reform, interoperability, organisational force structure and personnel. This has included an assignment as Staff Officer Grade One Combat Service Support in the ABCANZ Armies’ Program Office in Washington DC. His most recent role (2017-19) has been as Director General Land Manoeuvre Systems, Land Systems Division where he was responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of Defence’s land-based artillery and air defence systems, engineering and specialist vehicles, and general support equipment.

    In 2005-06 Brigadier Smeaton deployed on Operation Catalyst as the Officer Commanding of the Force Level Logistic Asset. In 2009 he returned to the Middle East on Operation Slipper as Commanding Officer of the Force Support Unit.

    Brigadier Smeaton is a graduate of the United States National Defense University, Eisenhower School, class of 2016 where he also participated in the Joint Land, Air and Sea Strategic-Special Program. In 2018 he completed the Senior Managers in Government intensive short course at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

    Brigadier Smeaton holds a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy and Master of Management in Defence Studies. He is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College (2004). Brigadier Smeaton and his wife Simone have three children, they enjoy travelling, being outdoors and camping as a family.
