Important Notice: In line with Government advice, it has been decided to postpone the RAQ-Darling Downs functions, including the RAMS and AAFM tours and the RAQ-DD Luncheon.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused, but in light of the current situation, this is assessed as a prudent measure.

We will advise a new date once the situation with the COVID-19 virus has stabilised.

All RAQ members, current and past members of the Corps or anyone with an association with RAEME are invited to attend a gathering in the Oakey and Toowoomba area on Saturday 21 Mar 2020.

Major Peter (Pete) Pile, the current Regional RAEME Representative Darling Downs and OPSO of the Rotary Wing Aircraft School (RAMS) is organising a couple of events in the area to bring together like minded RAEME folk.

There is to be a guided tour of RAMS, a tour of the Army Flying Museum and the inaugural RAEME Association Queensland Association Darling Downs lunch, details are:

  • RAMS - Tour of Rotary Wing Aircraft Maintenance School (RAMS).  RAMS will be open from 9 AM to midday to host tours for RAQ Members, ex-serving members of the Corps, and their guests. Tours take 1 hour, and will commence at 9 AM, 10 AM and 11 AM. Groups will be limited  to 20 pers, to ensure that everyone gets a ‘personal experience’. RAMS is located within a Restricted Access Area, which is itself within Swartz Barracks. All visitors will therefore need photo ID; either a Defence Common Access Card (DCAC), Driver’s Licence, student’s ID Card, or similar. Visitors will need to pick up visitors  passes from the Entry Gate Guard Room, located at the junction of Orr Road and Corfe Road, Oakey; and will then be escorted to RAMS. Parking is approximately 400m from RAMS. As this is an active Military Base, if you are a Foreign National, you will need to let the organiser know ASAP. Visitors should arrive at the gate at least 20 minutes before their tour commencement time, to allow for pass issuing and transit to RAMS.
  • Museum - Tour of  Australian Army Flying Museum (AAFM).  Please see the following link for details of the AAFM: http://www.armyflyingmuseum.com.au/visit-us . The AAFM will be open from 10 AM to 3 PM (although visitors intending to attend the lunch will need to depart the AAFM NLT midday to arrive in time for the lunch.) The  AAFM  is located ‘outside the wire’, so no ID is required; however, to ensure that there are sufficient staff available, advisement of numbers intending to visit is requested. Entry is FREE for those who have pre-registered , otherwise Normal Entry Fees apply.
  • Luncheon - Inaugural RAQ-Darling Downs (RAQ-DD) Lunch.   The lunch will be held at the Spotted Cow Hotel, which is located at 296  Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, commencing at 1 PM.  The guest of honour will be BRIG (retd) Ross Grant. Dress is smart-casual. Meals at own cost. The RAQ will subsidise RAQ Members/Serving Soldiers $5 and up to one Member/Serving Soldier Guest $5.
