Pictured Above: Brigadiers Bert Barker and Ed Smeaton cut the RAEME Birthday Cake
Thank you all for your attendance at last Sunday's function; it was great to see a few new faces.
The guest speaker was BRIG Ed Smeaton, who reflected on the birth of AEME/RAEME, and notable achievements since. He also spoke about the significant changes underway, and the exciting opportunities that they represent.
BRIG (Retd) Bert Barker (one of the Corps’ founding members) was the Special Guest. Bert cut the birthday cake, then gave a short speech, in which he commented how much he enjoyed attending these functions. Many of the attendees took the opportunity to sit and chat with Bert afterwards.
I would also like to thank the RAQ Committee for its support of our function, specifically for subsidising the meals and the 80th Birthday cake.
There are some pictures online in the Photo gallery. From the feedback that I received, everyone appeared to have a good time (in spite of a few meal delays).
Best wishes to you all, and we’ll hopefully see you again at the next RAQ-DD function on 12th March 23. Best wishes for a happy and peaceful festive season.

RAEME Birthday Celebrations 7CSSB - Brisbane
Pictured Above: One of the 'finishers' in the cart race!
Well the sky was grey, the rain came down and the Brisbane temp was, well not that good. You could have been forgiven if you thought it was the middle of winter. This didn't stop or 'dampen' the spirits of everyone who attended the Corps Birthday Celebrations held at 106 FD WKSP at Enoggera.
Teams from around the barracks competed in the traditional Spanner Toss, Tug-o-war and crowd favourites 'Chain of Command' and Billy Cart Race. It was pretty clear from the start the team to beat was 2/14 QMI SPT SQN who obviously practiced! Needless to say they took out three of the four competitions, including for the third year in a row, the penultimate event in the kart race. The inside word is the team use needle rollers in their wheel bearings instead of standard ball bearings. I think challenge accepted for next year. Congratulations all!

There was a huge contingent of stalls and vendors including our own Association with our stand. 'Bucket' Hats and Stubby Coolers were the order of the day. Bruce Hermann, Mick Patman and myself were kept busy, thankyou gents!
The traditional Awards were handed out including COTY SEQ and the 106 FD WKSP Norm Hicks Award winners. We'll publish the full list of recipients in coming additions.
A big thankyou to CO 7CSSB LTCOL Ross Thomas and all the organisers, especially to LT XJ (Tony) Cheng.
We've started to accrue a number of pictures from the day, these are available to view in the Photo Gallery. We will also have all the news and pics from other functions and events around the state.
